Much has been written about Las Vegas. The are numerous general guidebooks, offbeat and personal guides, quite a few biographies of the many colorful Las Vegas history and an incredible number of gambling guides. We hope our handy navigation buttons will help you find all the titles you are looking for. Although Las Vegas is notable for erasing its past as witnessed by the remarkable number of casino implosions, its history is most certainly not forgotten. The memories of the early days, the fact and fiction have been blended together into legends of mob based rule, the notoriety of Howard Hughes, the links to the Kennedy era politicians and celebrities live on in movies, books and now numerous Las Vegas past web sites. Today the Las Vegas Strip Map has changed so much you have to look for reminders of its past golden era. Ironically, the some of the cross street names will ultimately be the only legacy of the Vegas Past. Streets named Flamingo Rd, Desert Inn Rd, Sahara Ave., Tropicana Blvd. as well as the parallel running Frank Sinatra Blvd. will be the the most last physical legacy of the people and hotel casinos that put the Las Vegas Strip on the map in millions of people's minds. Although often criticized when compared to today's movie making standards, the original Ocean's 11 film's home movie made filmmaking style resulted in high quality color footage of 1960's era Las Vegas casinos as well as showing Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis all at the peak of their performing careers. A young look at Angie Dickinson is not to be missed either. The fashions and styles of the pill box era have not been forgotten. While the Las Vegas past is impossible to ignore the current scene in and around the Las Vegas Strip is never overshadowed. This lively celebrity crazed scene holds it own. The best evidence of this is the A-list cast of the remake of Ocean's 11 : George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Andy Garcia, Don Cheadle are at the top of their form and delivered an entertaining package that most agree was much exciting and cinematic as well as showing what up to date security measures are in place in Las Vegas casinos. Echoes of the past are well represented in Elliott Gould and Carl Reiner. While the sequel ( Ocean's 12 ) was an expensive disappointment - in fact it wasn't even set in Las Vegas, hopes are higher for a third try in Ocean's 13 which brings Ellen Barkin on board as well as a return to the Las Vegas Strip. |
